The Koukouya plateau is one of the four plateaus that make up
the Batéké plateaus. The problem of water supply is one of the most
serious concerns that the populations of this area face. Indeed, in a country
where 2 m of water falls per year and where the dry season is short, this is
a paradoxical fact. This study aims to take stock of the impluviums built in
the 1984s to compensate for the severe lack of water on the Koukouya
plateau. Ten villages out of twelve were selected for field surveys. The
choice of these villages takes into account the existence of an impluvium.
The study shows that almost all impluviums become non-functional due to
their dilapidation, poor management and lack of specialized technicians to
carry out maintenance. The lack of spare parts constitutes a real headache
because, the project having ended, finding spare parts on the market
becomes almost impossible. The populations are abandoned to their own
devices, and the state of the impluviums only deteriorates from one day to
the next.
